The RENEWAL Project is focused on developing the economic and social potential of the Greater Famagusta Region (including Famagusta Walled City and Deryneia), striving to support the improvement of the climate for reconciliation. It aims to enhance collaboration among civil society stakeholders, facilitate youth entrepreneurship through empowerment and networking opportunities and lastly, lay the soft infrastructure for business development which will lead to the improvement of economic potential of the region.

Yubiz is a novel web–based platform that offers a collection of tools and services designed to help young entrepreneurs to create their business, promote their ideas, find support and establish relationships. Its purpose is to offer these young entrepreneurs the basic building blocks required to run their business. The Yubiz platform is backed up by real people that will contribute into the platform by offering advice on multiple areas such as legal, accounting and financial, business and marketing, conflict resolution, IPR, technical etc.
The Europe 2020 strategy stresses the contribution of workers free movement and mobility to the EU economy, also in Cyprus. The project supports this, demonstrating the positive and concrete contribution that free movement and mobility can provide to the European economy, while maintaining the need to consider migrants as human beings. The objective of the project is to establish and support a proactive social dialogue and effective communication channel between employers’ and workers’ organizations in Cyprus.
The project is of great importance as it aims to protect society from financial crime, by increasing citizen security through improvement of the capacity and efficiency of cooperation between law enforcement authorities and Financial Intelligence Units (FIU) in the Donor states and Cyprus and at international level, in order to prevent and combat cross-border and organised crime and in particular money laundering and terrorist financing. The overall objective is to automate the analysis and investigation procedure of MOKAS, by implementing an IT system for supporting MOKAS’ core activities.
This project addresses a weakness of previous negotiations rounds for the solution of the Cyprus problem: the lack of mobilisation of social actors. Social actors are of strategic importance for the solution of the Cyprus problem, because their support to the process may generate wide acceptance and active participation. Social actors may also provide expertise, useful for the elaboration of essential provisions of the solution that are indispensable for the economic and social cohesion of the common future state and thus for the viability of the negotiated solution.
The key objective of Empower Youth is to assist youth become more aware of the many challenges in setting up and running a successful business and the ways to overcome them. Youth unemployment is high. Most Cyprus businesses do not invest in training and/or developing their employees, nor do they provide students from universities / secondary schools with opportunities to learn at workplace. Many young people, to avoid long term unemployment, eventually try to set up their own business with high risk of failure, as many of them never had any prior exposure to entrepreneurial thinking.
This initiative aimed to increase the involvement of Cypriot civil society in decision making processes at the political level by building up the organizational capacity, reputation, credibility, visibility and membership base of the newly formed communal business leaders’ group ‘Malta Business Group (MBG)’. This support is aimed to help the group be a position to sustainably continue to design and implement new joint actions and confidence-building measures in support of the overall objectives, under the auspices of the two chambers.
