Undergraduate and postgraduate students graduate schools and feel that they lack of real experience. This is not just a feeling they have but a reality as organisations need to train them and need to make them familiar with their way of working and looking at a problem. There is a need of providing real cases to students to solve and therefore equip them with employability/vocational Skills needed for the 21st century. Some universities make this through Internships or thesis projects that can provide a real hands-on experience.
We propose the development of the Students Experience Professionalism (STEP) platform where organisations can post mini projects and students can create profiles and can work on projects posted by Organisations. Organisations can post projects that could be already completed by their employers or small projects that they could actual use on their organisation. In this way, a bank of real mini projects will be created. Then students will be able to take up a project provided by organisations as part of a course assignment (upon agreement with instructors). Upon completion, organisations will be needed to provide feedback as the level and quality of solution needs to reflect real cases and feedback will be used by instructor as part of the student evaluation. No payments will be made but feedback will be provided and organisations’ evaluations will be used as part of students profile evaluation.
Students get experiences from real projects whereas at the same time they develop their employability/ vocational skills! Organisations can hand on mini projects to their future employees!
