Capacity Development is the process through which people, organisations, and societies systematically develop their abilities and become more self-reliant. It involves improving knowledge, skills, systems and institutions and it is often achieved through training, raising public awareness, and encouraging networking and co-operation.
Active Citizenship is the process through which people get involved in their communities and the public sphere in order to make society a better place for everyone. It involves voluntary work for different causes and participation in community decision-making processes. Active citizens have the abilities and skills needed to work equitably and effectively with others in developing their communities in sustainable ways.
Dialogue & Diversity reflects the ability of communities and societies to value diversity and promote open and honest dialogue between different groups. Pluralism and multiculturalism can only flourish in societies where difference is respected and appreciated and where citizens are provided with both the skills and the space to genuinely listen to each other and develop a constructive dialogue.
Knowledge & Innovation comprises processes that strengthen the knowledge base of a community or a society and use knowledge to propose new solutions or invent new tools for the progress of society. Knowledge is a pre-requisite to innovation and the ability to innovate and create new solutions is itself essential for the sustainable development of societies.
Social Good is a concept that reflects the preoccupation with improvements that benefit society as a whole. Working for social good encourages change for the common good, particularly in areas that tend to be marginalized or overlooked.
Advocacy & Policymaking reflects processes through which citizens aim to contribute to well-informed policymaking. Advocacy and policymaking usually involves information sharing, consultations, and consensus building to ensure public policy respects the rights and opportunities for development of all citizens.
