‘The Power of Sport’ is a series of five short animated films accompanied by learning modules and a facilitators’ guide. The films illustrate how sport can be used as a tool for peace-building and shares the methodologies adopted by PeacePlayers International (PPI) in its work in Cyprus and elsewhere. They can be used by organisations and coaches looking to use sport as a tool for conflict transformation. The learning modules are targeted towards young people aged between 14 and 20. To learn more about how to structure a facilitating session around these videos please review “The Facilitator’s Guide to The Power of Sport”.
PeacePlayers International has been using the game of basketball as a tool to change perceptions, develop leaders and bridge divides for 12 years. The organisation’s expertise is derived from on-the-ground experience in conflict transformation and youth development through sport in Northern Ireland, South Africa, the Middle East and Cyprus. PeacePlayers’ efforts extend far beyond basketball and include innovative educational methods such as “The Anatomy of Peace”, a conflict transformation programme. Our techniques have been applied worldwide to teach specific life skills and peace-building values through basketball. Through “The Power of Sport: Animated Videos and Learning Guides”, PeacePlayers Cyprus has created a tool for sharing our methodology, experiences and educational resources.
